Reminds me so much of the post-debate discourse last year, except "Blackwater mercenary who blames women for rape and has a Nazi tattoo" is juuuust a bit worse than "being too old to effectively campaign anymore."

You owe Graham Platner nothing! There is no shame in abandoning him! Or do you really think this is your best/only option? (5/5)

Plus, there’s still time to recruit a genuine progressive candidate – Maine hasn’t even started allowing candidates to collect signatures yet! So find one who doesn’t HAVE A NAZI TATTOO! (4/5)

There’s also just the political reality people are in denial about. The guy is running for Senate in MAINE, not the head of the local DSA chapter. You can’t say rural whites are stupid and win in Maine. (3/5)

He blamed women for getting raped, spread racist tropes, and HAS A NAZI TATTOO. He worked for Blackwater. These are just immediately disqualifying things, but this guy gets a pass because he’s a little rough around the edges and has a workingman affect? *cough*Fetterman*cough* (2/5)

FYI, it seems like employees at the Department of Ed, at least, had no control over it. bsky.app/profile/mari...
NEW—US Department of Education sent out standard Out of Office language to employees on Wednesday in light of shutdown. Later yesterday, workers tell me they found someone had updated their auto-responses without consent to a new one blaming Democrats.

Didn’t think to screenshot but my reason was “You appease fascists. Rot in hell.”

Hard agree. New Haven is just a hair lower on the Y axis even though it's much further to the left on the X axis.

The Atlantic/Chris Rufo/TCW is one helluva dark triad.

I know, that came off as too harsh. It was very-good-to-great, most of the time.

She writes the program was "The kind of show that’s a phenomenon, that makes people fall in love with TV as a medium." Mad Men and Girls are the only shows in her career that meet that threshold (and I'm being VERY generous toward Girls there) – and only one of those shows had a male creator.

I'm sure it's for legal reasons, but it's funny how this excerpt (and even some of the people commenting here!) plays coy about the obvious fact that this is about Mad Men and Matthew Weiner. A glance at Mamet's Wikipedia page makes it clear there's only one show this could be about.

You mean you don't love the "2014 Roku app" look and functionality?

The only good thing ROS did was screw up so badly that it reunited the fan base by giving them something everyone could hate (well, two things - besides being a bad movie on its own, it also ruined the entire sequel trilogy in retrospect). Transparency: I also loved TLJ.

Am I missing something nefarious here? Taiwan does refer to itself as the Republic of China.

Man, I knew I forgot someone (Landrieu). Always fun to play Let's Remember Some Senators. (To your larger point: Maybe. But a protracted fight post-ACA seems unwinnable.)

Max Baucus, Kent Conrad, Mark Pryor, Robert Byrd, Byron Dorgan, Tim Johnson, *sigh* Joe Lieberman... none of these people are voting to abolish the filibuster or grant DC statehood.

I think I saw this for the first time during peak COVID in 2020 and it sent me into that teary-eyed, convulsive, unable-to-speak type of laughter that I hadn't experienced in months.

Gotta disagree. The bill cutting those taxes is one of the most manifestly evil pieces of legislation ever passed, takes away poor people's health care, and provides the funds to build even more concentration camps, so I think it's just as worth talking about as the other things.

You know Bluesky has enough sports fans because you can fill up an entire phone screen with reactions to horrible things as they happen, like this from last night.
