Out and about to ground-truth our lost fishing gear dives mid-winter in #longislandsound - Many thanks to Bill Lucey, the LISoundkeeper and Save The Sound for getting out there and for their continued collaboration, along with volunteer divers from UConn Avery Point & Audubon Nature Institute. Celebrating together after a productive field season. Thanks to Fundación CIM-Caribe and our team at @remoteecologist.bsky.social for a productive coral field season and for a great start to the new year! Much to be done in 2025!

Leaf? Or….. only in #Colombia do I continue to have these incredible encounters. It is humbling being close to so much biodiversity.

Always fun to show nonscientists settling corals and GFP production. A throwback photo from our settling #Acropora palmata planulae from last summer! As I continue to state, I’m in the crab and fish housing construction business. 😁 #coastalrestoration

Inspiring my daughter while she was home sick yesterday with the caiman meandering about in the backyard. Though, she notes she will study “all animals, not just the marine ones.” Favorite animal group: crocodilians.

Glad to have had the chance last Friday to chat with my postdoc advisor Prof. Martha Rocha during my layover in Bogotá to catch up on all things #freshwatercrabs - and looking forward to getting that research collaboration back up and going! Back to biogeographic modeling…

My former supervisor keeps a running list of different animals that have bitten or drawn blood. I played a small part in this effort, which was born out of Instituto Humboldt’s Carlos Lasso’s field experiences/hospitalizations - a first go at a risk analysis by study organism. #venomousanimals

Living in Santa Marta never gets old. We have all the fun freshwater and terrestrial questions to get after (finally getting back to my freshwater #crab work), and also all this great marine space! #nature #explore
