West of Champaign. Pretty wild.

Hugo’s the only pirate on the sea.

This is Hugo. He’s pretty sure we’ve got this.

Lake Michigan north of Milwaukee already prepping for fall (this was yesterday, but it was chilly, windy and wet).

A fine, fine city (those nifty lakes don’t hurt).

Really cool. These (and about 30 more) hatched in a neighbor’s yard last weekend. Too many for the small pond they were trying to get to, so someone took them to a local river.

Chicago. Summer 2005.

From yesterday. Not a Badger but I endorse.

One of my favorite “I had no idea” finds while driving through the parking lot of the new place a few years back.

Huh. I shot this last week. You got the better sky, for sure.

From a couple of recent bike rides through the University of Illinois. Just me and the livestock. #uiuc

Do you ever wander around Milwaukee with a camera? I’d love to hear your thoughts on its architecture, if you have. Just great contrasts all over the older parts of the city (this spot in downtown is a favorite).

Downright picturesque by local standards this morning as the leader headed into mile 20 or so of the Illinois Marathon.

Hugo, and he’s very sincere.

I’ll see that tree and raise you two grain bins and one planet(?).

I give you the worst fortune I’ve ever seen (one of my kids got this one last weekend).

You’re about the last reason we still subscribe. This kind of shrugging whitewashing of reality is going to change my mind.

Working my way through “The Gulf.” It’s terrific but (for a non-academic like me, anyway) dense. Reading this one, too. Big, sweeping and one of the best things I’ve ever read.

Final bullet there leads me to suggest the Rangers:
-Long history of futility, so no front-running risk.
-Some recent success made even sweeter by said futility, so all hope is not lost.
-Bruce Bochy is a fine manager.
-By statute, TX fans must and do loathe the Angels.
-Amazing old logo.

A big pile of rocks and odd trees out west deserves at least an honorable mention. Very astute on your combo No. 10 (which aren’t too bad in the winter, either).

Merry Christmas from Lake Michigan (nice touch with the lights on the beached boat, Milwaukee).
