Just heard the old Ben Casey TV theme on satellite radio. It's almost 65 years old, but still both classical and contemporary, fascinating harmonic movement and cross-rhythms. Sure beats the soupy Dr. Kildare theme of the same period.
Valjean - Theme From Ben Casey (1962)
Charted at #28 on Billboard Hot 100 in July 1962, and #10 on Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Valjean on piano; orchestra conducted by Jon Neel. Valjean charted once more during the year when "Till There Was You" reached #100. Written by Raksin. B-side is "Theme from Dr. Kildare".

Irving Berlin wrote a pop song in 1916, "Smile and Show Your Dimple." It was a flop but he saved the melody and in 1933 it was resurrected as "Easter Parade." It became one of only 2 very popular secular pop songs of Easter, the other being "Here Comes Peter Cottontail."

COMING TO NASHVILLE? DON'T MISS "THE MOTHER SHIP"
Ryman Auditorium, the Mecca of Country Music, started out in 1892 as a church - the Union Gospel Tabernacle, later became a popular site for events and entertainment. Became the home of the Grand Ole Opry in 1943. It is the birthplace of bluegrass.
