I teach environmental ethics to engineers and the closest we came up with in class the other day was that things are going to continue to get worse for like 20 years but then the surviving populous will be motivated / powerful enough to build something better after.

I teach environmental ethics to engineers and a student after class asked me what school of philosophy / ethics doesn’t care about anything and I jokingly said Nihilism cause of the Big Lebowski and I fear the consequences.

I get that and totally fair! I think this is primarily a problem for more left wing men to solve. But I also think it needs to be solved for long-term coalition building and systematic change. Or, the left continues to be fractured and rarely winning elections and has little political power.

Content creators like hasan are necessary for this, and left men need to figure out how to create more wholesome spaces that don’t alienate young men.

I absolutely agree with that. But I think that’s balanced that young men, even if well intentioned, fall into making jokes like this. They need to be taught the humility (by other left male role models), to accept being called in (not called out), and unlearn horrific learned behavior 1/2

The quote you linked is gross, but I do think Hasan has enough humility to thoughtfully take feedback. He’s is “mostly” principled and reaches young men that would end up in alt-right spaces. Should we have a tolerance for shit head jokes in left content? Im not sure, pointing to Greens take.
