I think one semester of theory in a university classroom (Freire, Dewey, Hooks etc) as a baseline of pedagogy, and 3 semesters of a full time residency under the guidance of a current practicing teacher, or team of teachers, makes a lot of sense!

I really like the idea of using it as an anchor text for AP seminar. It makes that class much more interesting still keeps it anchored in the literary world. My son’s AP seminar class will not read a single novel this year. 😡

Is there data or studies that show expired car seats not performing up to safety standards? Just curious because the cynical side of me worries that these dates are more about revenue than safety.

Same! I think my overall level of tension and stress is just higher based on what’s happening in the word a d therefore I have a shorter fuse with my students. Not fair to them, but also not to myself to act as though these are normal times. Thanks for the reminder!

Our principal doesn’t allow for discussion of ANYTHING. She doesn’t think staff meetings are a productive space to have open discussions.

Doesn’t the same thing apply to big pharmaceutical companies? Taxpayers spend millions of $$ to support the research and development of new drugs. Should we own the patents?

I wonder how much of this is impacted by funding. In some cases, we read from the canon because we have those books on hand and because $$ is so tight it can feel challenging to “take a chance” on something newer and more relatable to students.

“Seriously considering” basically means it’s a done deal. What a POS!

This looks great! Thinking about doing a version of this as our first writing assignment with my freshman.

Wouldn’t “journalistic suicide” presume that they are still concerned about journalistic standards? It’s a pet project for a billionaire, WTF does he care about any of that?

This was literally us just last year!l

Teachers: Can we modify it to suit the needs of our students?
District: No
Teachers: Are there additional supports built in to help support language learners?
District: no, we figured you could create those.
