I had in mind Edward St Aubyn's Patrick Melrose novels when I posted the above. ☝️

Thinking about it more, it would also explain the absence of any George RR Martin books.

Perhaps fans of those series held back from nominating the same types of books. More likely they were deliberately excluded (or combined). If so, a good thing. Less discussion about the same books and more variety on the list.

My Brilliant Friend (27) is known less as a stand alone novel than for being the first in the Neapolitan Quartet.

The Hunger Games (26), The Thursday Murder Club (36), The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (52) are each the first in a series of books.
