A hopeful sign that spring is here. 3/18 photo of a sagebrush buttercup (Ranunculus glaberrimus) emerging in one of the Klamath County Museum's native plant beds.

The draw of the Wood River Wetlands along Agency Lake in Southern Oregon, aided by continued sunshine and mild temperatures, proved compelling on the 20th. Also, views of the 'roof' of Crater Lake National Park and the Sky Lakes Wilderness.

My wife and I enjoyed a day hike at Lava Beds National Monument on Sunday the 19th. Mild temps (upper 40's), abundant sunshine, no wind and interesting geology made for a fine day.

Participated in a relatively balmy 41° hike in Lava Beds National Monument (northern CA) on Sunday. 7.25 miles out-and-back, with bluebird blue skies. Lunch just inside the Lava Beds Wilderness, on Juniper Butte. We took a side trip to Fern Cave, secured against entry, but not cameras.

I was on the Oregon coast the day after the 'bomb cyclone' more directly impacted Washington state (on 11/19). The effect on the surf that far south was still pretty dramatic.

Had an opportunity to see chinook salmon returning to the Klamath Basin in Spencer Creek, about a mile above the now free-flowing Klamath River. The first salmon in over 100 years to make it back into Oregon, after removal of four dams.
