Gonna throw my hat in for endless space 2 and endless legend. Mechanics are easy to understand, UI is slick, games are "shortish", faction stories to keep the game engaging, combat is all autobattled, the quests are cool, lots of player freedom and expression, and the music is KILLER.

Otherwise, like anything, you just throw yourself at the wall enough times till you "kinda get it" and it stops being a worry as you intuit the systems and kick yourself in the head every now and again when you forget something.

I'd try endless space 2. It's kinda "brain off". It's turn based, so there's no moment to moment stress, the F.I.D.S. system is pretty simple, and the faction story stuff is a bigger draw than micromanaging stuff.
