he'll blame himself for letting the cracks build up but he does try to keep it intact in his own way. his will is weak but it's there and it fights

ppl & story he loves. he absolutely does try to fight for the things he loves. the entirety of orv is built on choices of him not giving up on the story AND loved ones, which is a direct mirror to yjh. i don't think he's the type to purposely throw a vase to the floor just cuz it has cracks.

off course. a big part of his growth from reader to companion is him learning to respect/accept yjh's choices/path (see 999 arc). that is an integral pillar of their relationship where kdj's trying not to be a reader deciding yjh's life & ending for him

it's not like kdj ever sabotages their life & death companionship out of guilt or self-loathing. in fact his charadev with yjh is him learning to show yjh that he does want to be companions with yjh. his guilt just causes him to overperform (cost his own life/sanity) rather than try and run yjh
