To be clear, mining companies can get it right - but both the history of the mining industry and current practices show that there's a long ways to go. And their failure to get it right is likely to create a significant to the speed of the energy transition, IMHO.

I agree with treating it like a climate emergency. But I think that mining cos. give the transition a bad name when they don't get it right. When mining cos. cause human rights violations, it's understandable that communities don't want them anywhere nearby.

Are you saying that human rights violations are an acceptable tradeoff, and you would sacrifice them for increased renewable energy?

So we need a Yes And Do It Right Agenda

There are ppl in the climate movement pushing the Yes Yes Yes agenda. But if this agenda doesn't have safeguards, it's not done well and splits the movement between ppl who are pro-RE at any cost and ppl who fight the bad (look at mining for transition minerals and mining cos. who get it wrong).

It's part of a bill that provides tax relief to hostages. That's good, but the provision giving Treasury unilateral ability to crack down on non-profits was added. No need to have them in the same bill, so please call your rep, urge them to vote no, and then separate tax relief into a different bill
