"I let the dog out, or I let him in, and we talk some. I let him know I like him, and he lets me know he likes me."
I still don’t believe anyone actually listens to this podcast.

A classic, released 50 years ago today. I'm excited to be presenting at the academic conference hosted by Bruce Springsteen Archives on September 7. My paper is "On the Wrong Side of that [Picket] Line? Bruce Springsteen's Labor Politics in Practice."

New NYC mayor poll. About 60% of NYC voters say they would not consider voting for Cuomo, Adam’s, or Sliwa.

Finally getting caught up on Andor
season 2, and maybe others have discussed this, but there’s a huge problem with Dedra Meero’s b ackstory. She claims to have been raised in an Imperial Kinderblock, but the Galactic Empire is only 15 years old at this point and she’s at least, what, 40?

I’m old enough to remember the GOP hammering Dems on the “Cornhusker Kickback” to get the ACA through the Senate. Shall this be known as the “Alaskan Arm-twist?”
June 29, 2025 at 3:22 PM
Former State Sen. Steve Sweeney (<5% of the vote)
Upside: Only South Jersey candidate.
Downside: Lost his state senate seat in a huge upset a few years back; known for compromising with Gov. Christie.
June 10, 2025 at 12:38 PM
NJEA President Sean Spiller (5 - 8% of the vote)
Upside: NJEA has spent $40 million dollars on his campaign, giving him a bigger warchest than any other candidate. I think I’ve gotten a direct mailing from NJEA every week for the last 10 weeks or so.
June 10, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (8 - 12%)
Upside: Seen as a moderate, “problem solvers caucus” member, campaigning on affordability ("tax cuts"), represents a very moderate district and is more well known in Bergen County (largest by pop in the state). Has campaigned recently as a fighter against Trumpism.
June 10, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Mayor Steven Fulop (15 - 20% of the vote)
Mayor of Jersey City (NJ’s second largest); term in office has largely been a success story as JC has become much safer and wealthier over the last 15 years. Running as “anti-establishment” political reformer. Comes across very smart on the stump.
June 10, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Mayor Ras Baraka (15 - 20% of the vote)
Mayor of NJ’s largest city; running in progressive lane and gained publicity with recent arrest by federal agents at ICE detention center. Endorsed by major progressive groups.
Downside: Would be a huge risk as a general election candidate...
June 10, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Rep. Mikie Sherrill (20 - 25% of the vote)
Upside: Has a strong bio, proven ability to win in the suburbs
Downside: Would resign from Congress in the middle of her term if she were to win the governorship; seen as very vanilla and “establishment” at a time when many Dems are angry with the party.
