Slide three is how I'm lookin' 👀 at these other windows with their fear-mongering flyers, distributed by Summerhill Market 🤨Who has surveyed their own clientele: how many customers drive and park on Bathurst? Why the certainty that they will abandon you? Why are you blind to all your customers who walk, cycle, and TTC to your businesses? The slight inconvenience proposed to motorists seems WAY more important than everyone else's needs! The few businesses I heard from firsthand don't even seem to consider non-motorist as customers. When the convo turns to the safety of children, the elderly and the disabled, they forget that the above groups of people also use other modes of travel (walking, ttc, cycling). The majority who live in this ward DO NOT DRIVE. 😳They can pretend that they are primarily worried about disabled folk, but as far as I know, this anti-campaign is NOT being spearheaded by disability activists. Many ppl living with disabilities rely on TTC buses, streetcars, subways, and Wheel-Trans to get to appointments, run errands, and explore the city. These are the services that need more funding, more priority lanes, more right of way lights, etc. The framing of 'two of our lanes will be taken away' is funny when that is already the current problem. Parked cars clogging up major road arteries cause more problems than they solve! Bettering TTC service makes public transit a *more* appealing choice for those who have multiple options. (Though for some, the TTC is their only option) Encouraging public transit use helps traffic problems! Less cars on the road less stress for the remaining motorists! I will grant that, certainly, Bathurst could use more designated loading zones and accessibility parking spots (neither of these types of spaces are being threatened by this proposal, btw). The city should install more of them where they are needed!RapidTO will not fix all of our problems, sure, but let's not let perfection be the enemy of good. It saddens me to see business owners and landlords dictating and stopping the city from progressing. 😔These are just some of my thoughts on the matter. Thank you for reading!
