Herman Wouk’s “War & Remembrance” does a surprisingly good job of delving into the depths of the horror. For an old school novel, it really doesn’t flinch from the ugliness.

Oh man, "Ten Years Gone" is so epic. So much nostalgia mixed up in that wonderful song.

I also really enjoy the generally unloved "Boogie With Stu".

But my immediate answer has to be "Flamethrower", from the J. Geils "Freeze Frame" record. That track shoulda made them bigger than Def Leppard.

"Tango #3 Determination For Rosa Parks" by The Lounge Lizards is pretty awesome alt-jazz, if you're into that sort of thing. Also John Lurie is great in Down By Law.
