They are a longtime obsession of mine. So many good songs. They did seem destined to be plucked from obscurity by a well-placed soundtrack placement. Unfortunately for them, they ended up on the soundtrack for Elizabethtown instead.

I know! I had actually forgotten that quote until I re-read it. It somehow feels truer now than when he said it. I think the larger truth to be divined here is that some of the worst music in the world is made by incredibly nice people. And vice-versa.

I have to say that while I find both Flea's response to the quote and Cave's new perspective on it heartening and life-affirming, I also feel like the essential truth of the original quote has never been challenged.
