The amount of confusion re Real ID and the SAVE Act is surely intentional. A regular Real ID only confirms identity; US citizenship isn't required. The SAVE Act specifies Real ID that confirm citizenship. There's only 5 states with that, and they're optional. The star is not enough for the SAVE Act.

This year's cake. I expect the raspberry sauce will bleed so I took a picture. I could've waited until serving to add it but it looked weird without it. Vanilla genoise w/almond syrup filled with pastry cream mixed with about a cup of the whipped cream cream cheese frosting that it's decorated with.

Sometimes I just need to eat my feelings. This time it resulted in coffee cake. But because nothing in this house gets eaten in a timely manner, I baked half cakes and one is going in the freezer.
Two loaf pans of crumb topped coffee cake pushed together along their long side, behind a small white porcelain saucer with a skinny slice of coffee cake on it. The loaf pans have a dull metallic exterior and a dark interior, and each has a strip of white parchment paper lining the length of the pan and overhanging the long sides like a sling, leaving the short sides unlined. The coffee cake in the right hand pan has had some removed. The coffee cake is the color of yellow cake and the crumb topping is a pale tan color. The crumbs vary from sand-like to small rounded pebbles in size. The saucer has a black printed design in a ring around the middle and the slice of coffee cake is the width of the loaf pan and about an inch and a half tall and an inch deep.

Cross section. I already took out three slices.
A long sandwich cut and spread open to show the layers. The heel is on the left and the bulk of the sandwich is on the right. It us sitting on white parchment paper with grid lines. The top of the ciabatta loaf has a generous dusting of flour. The top layers alternate the off white of the provolone and the brown/pink of prosciutto and Serrano ham. The middle has a layer of green from the salad greens with a hint if red tomato. Below that is a brown/pink layer of soppressata, more cheese, and the red/orange of hot salami with yet more cheese interspersed. There are dark patches in the bread where balsamic vinegar has soaked in.

The very important squashing of the sandwich. Assorted cured meats and provolone on ciabata with oil and vinegar and oregano, with quick pickled onions, tomato, and mixed salad greens.

Today I learned that Frankie will watch TV. Not just TV with cats, either. He also watched the sections on pangolins and orangutans.

103 spam musubi took me around 17c of raw rice, and took many hours to assemble and individually wrap in parchment. I knew 100pc would take up a decent amount of space, but I didn't anticipate how heavy all of them together would be.
A small white plate with a spam musubi: a slice of fried luncheon meat sitting on a matching oblong of rice, wrapped the short way around with a piece of sushi nori so only the very ends of the luncheon meat and rice are exposed. The nori has darkened with moisture and conforms to the shape of the spam musubi.

A little extra layer for cold fingertips that can be folded back or inside. I like it better folded inside. I ran out of the deeper blue and had to finish with a bit of green.
A pair of knitted fingerless mitts with a folded up cuff. The line of the fold and a thick stripe at the top edge of the fingers is light green while the main color is heathered blue. The main stitch pattern is k2p2 ribbing, the thumb gusset is stockinette and the last inch or so of the thumbs is k1p1 ribbing. The left mitt on a hand showing the extra pocket on the fingers. The extra pocket is decreased at both to conform to the fibfers. It is a darker blue with the top bit in the same light green as the stripe on the main portion of the mitts. A hand in the left mitt, side view with the thumb forward. The finger cover is folded inside and not visible but there is an extra thickness on the back of the hand where it is tucked.

Posting this here because I like how I decreased the thumb.
A left hand wearing an unfinished fingerless mitt that exposes the thumb tip and fingers above the first knuckle. The main color is a medium heathered blue and halfway up the fingers the color changes to light green. The yarn ends are not woven in. Most of the mitt is worked in k2p2 ribbing except for the stockinette gusset and a 4st wide column of stockinette rising from the fourchette. The hand is angled awkwardly to expose the fourchette between the thumb and fingers. The stitches decrease directionally on both sides of the fourchette, forming a triangle that points at the thumb tip.

Apparently my laziness knows no bounds. I'd rather use the rotisserie basket than occasionally flip the shelves and stir.

Unfortunately hot flashes do not preclude cold hands while taking out the trash and recycling. Time to break out the knitting needles.
