I actually remember when it happened. I grew up in the Great Lakes region and it was big news for days. And then of course the song fixed it in our memories.

Their addition to our family wasn’t planned. When they came to us, we already had 4. We discovered Junia with her kittens in our backyard. By the time we realized we had to take responsibility for them, only one of them was still living. In addition to Macrina, we now have Dami and Cosmo from 2020

One of my great joys as a priest is re-encountering the collects each year. I’m often caught short when I begin the Rite I collect at the 8 am Eucharist and suddenly remember its themes and language.

My former bishop basically forbade “deacons masses” but he seems not to have been terribly keen on deacons in general. His mantra was, “let’s recover the centrality of Morning Prayer.”

I presided at a Sunday Eucharist for the first time in October (we're hosting a newly-ordained priest who needs to get some experience before being placed in a parish). And the choir sang an amazing Schütz setting of the Tax Collector and Pharisee parable.

Count this old white guy in the camp of advocating that anyone who uses AI for writing sermons should be defrocked.

This actually happened in the late 70s. My Mennonite congregation was debating the ethics of paying war taxes. Someone stood up and said they kept their income low so they didn’t have any income tax liability

Well. As a transplant to Wisconsin, I was a bit taken aback on an Autumn Sunday when someone pointed out my vestments were Packers colors

I’m an old guy, and Thanks be to God, have never been to General Convention nor plan on going, but I wonder whether “formation” is a wise and efficient use of the limited amount of time available. And if “formation” is important, why not make it available to everyone and not only to deputies?

There’s always Brahms: try #4. Mahler is kind of over the top. I played tuba, so Dvorak #9 or Mahler were favorites
