Outside of London and the south-east, the UK has a huge number of unelectrified railway miles.
These lines are often underutilised, and carry an order of magnitude more passengers if utilised well.
(Maybe one day I'll write a thread on that, but today is not that day).

When it comes to 'is this a nice building to walk passed?', you simply cannot beat Victorian design: varied facade's by floor, symmetry, red bricks that look good in all British weather, and contrast with wrought iron.
