Okay, well I hope I’m wrong and premium does work because people’s jobs are involved, but I think it’s unlikely it will. As someone on the inside you can listen to peoples opinions and consider them…or keep quiet and let Reach carry on ruining the Echo. I hope it does work out though.

With the only new update being “we have no updates” then that’s not something that entices readers to consider a premium offering. Your whole publication has to be good. Quotas are damaging the paper.

Or you can continue a model that isn’t really working. Surely as a journalist you’re not proud of articles like that. You became a journalist to do real work. People want to read your real work. People will pay for good journalism. But when you’re publishing an article or two year old information..

Well that article still forms part of your shop window to sell the premium subscription. Realistically the premium idea is unlikely to succeed for the Echo. You could point out to the higher ups that pushing quotas results in high volume low quality copy which isn’t appealing to readers or….

Not much of an advert if you’re trying to give a hard push for a paid plan though is it. That’s my point. The Echo has so much material that’s clearly been published just to meet quotas, such as that article, and that’s not going to attract people in to paying. People pay for quality.

Today you wrote an article about the SFO update on Signature. The whole update was “We continue to progress our investigation into Signature Group and will share further information when available”. It’s not really journalism worth paying for is it, be totally honest.
