No, I don't think that there are no solutions. It's just that anything meaningful will have to be done on a large time scale. In my opinion, the type of reforms we're talking about will take decades to accomplish. Decades of slow, incremental changes that could often feel pointless.

To be honest, while I think it would certainly help to have an executive oversight for a restructuring, I'm not convinced that any replacement of the administration could fundamentally restructure how policing works in America. There are too many incentives to keep things the way they are.

Exactly, so you kind of have to pull the rug under them. My idea would be to slowly redefine the role of a police officer to be the custodian or janitor of the city/town.

I can't speak about other police forces, but if I remember correctly, the NYPD has threatened the families of politicians before. So avoiding the police and slowly chipping away at them would be the smartest move for any progressive leader out there.

That's why I want the left leaning candidates to be more like Mamdani, someone who very clearly hates bad people and is willing to throw down with them while being positive.

It's certainly a problem, but I think this time, they don't really have much power to do anything about it. The democratic leadership itself is under threat from their own voters.
