My dad was an Air Force pilot, then a captain for TWA and also did #planecrash investigations. I asked him if it’s hard to land at that airport.

His reply: Yes, for lots of reasons Washington National is tough. It was a good 1936 DC-3 airport. I think the helicopter pilot & ATC are at fault.

4 years ago today I got “The Call” for NEW LUNGS! For 3 years I’d been on oxygen, 9 nebulizer meds a day, IV’s weeks at a time, coughed blood. Thanks to the generosity of a grieving family on their worst day, I’m able to breathe again. Organ donation saves lives! ♻️🫁 #transplant

Here goes my first ostomy picture. Did I think about hospice rather than a permanent ostomy? Yes, I did. Instead, I chose life & beat rectal cancer. You know what helped me? Tik Tok videos like this.

Now, I want to inspire other ostomates to be positive too & reduce the stigma.

Home IV’s: I’m taking Zosyn to combat the pseudomonas that showed up in my bronch. It’s every 8 hours. Takes about an hour to infuse. Get them out of refrigerator an hour before. Flush the line, attach. No IV pole! They look like breast implants 🤣 #lungtransplant #cysticfibrosis

Home IV’s update: Home health care nurse comes once a week. Today she went over paperwork, consent forms and my meds. Now going to draw blood and put on my IV extension so I can hook up the IV’s myself. (Radiology never has the right size.)

In my 20’s and 30’s, I found it very traumatic to have a bunch of nurses stabbing me over and over, trying and failing to get IV lines in.

This procedure takes less than 30 minutes and minimizes the discomfort. #cysticfibrosis

PICC: Choose arm for placement. They clean the area. Ultrasound gel. Examine veins. Shots for numbing (those hurt!) Run a guide wire up while X-ray machine shows where line ends (before ❤️). Place line. It feels weird! Check everything. Clean up. Stat lock or suture. Dressing.

Just had my annual bronchoscopy. It’s nearly the 4th lungiversary of my double lung transplant ♻️🫁

If you have a dog with seizures, especially a smaller breed, please let me know what worked for you! My chihuahua mix rescue is 3 years old and has about 1-2 seizures a month. She’s on phenobarbital and levetiracetam (keppra) every 12 hours.
