After four weeks away noticed this newt swimming in empty jam jar just outside the back door. Think it’s a smooth newt lots of orange underneath and it seemed very active and healthy. However longs it been there and how on earth did it get there ?Released to near the pond. #amphibians #newts

At last today a Radfords flame shoulder here in Normandy …all that peering at other peoples’ on Scilly paid off as immediately recognised possibly first for our Dept certainly first for here. Await recorders view but white hairs seen ! #teammoth

Professional droned our harrier nests yesterday five eggs on hen and sitting fem on Monty’s . First Monty’s nest abandoned Barley looking quite ripe so urgent call to farmer and cage by authorities.
This is the new female who may have caused the abandonment #harrier protection Normandy.

Best local birding is along the Seine near Pont de Normandie. A fabulous reserve with reed beds and hunters’ and other ponds.Loads cuckoos & nightingales today we saw so much…marsh warblers bluethroats included and photographed this whinchat whitethroat and garden warbler #birding
