2025 climate risk report no place to hide Our situation is perilous. As temperatures increase, so do damages from floods, hurricanes, and fires. These pose increasing threats to global economies. Climate risk is financial risk. Many economists have predicted 20-40% reduction in asset values due to climate change. This poses a serious risk to pension funds and their beneficiaries. Climate risk management is a core responsibility of those managing pension funds. They must step up and collaborate to pull their funds out of fossil fuel investments.

Our Pause Act Lobby Day was a success! Nearly 100 DivestOregon members headed to Salem and spoke with 42 legislators about SB681, The Pause Act, which would enact a 5-year moratorium on NEW PERS investments in private fossil fuel funds. Learn more about the Pause Act at DivestOregon.org

Oregon’s Pause Act: SB681 PRESS PAUSE ON PERS Private Investments in Fossil Fuels The Pause Act will enact a five-year moratorium on new PERS investments in private fossil-fuel funds. F or the past 50 years, the finance sector has dangerously re-written the rules of the global economy, including here in Oregon. We have seen wealth extracted from our communities while our greenhouse emissions skyrocket. At the leading edge of this transformation has been the aggressive expansion of the private investment sector, generally referred to as private equity, which has over a trillion dollars in fossil fuel investments. Problems with private investments Overexposure to the fossil fuel sector. Extractive & secretive – with minimal oversight. Not delivering financially for Oregonians. Promises of the Pause Act Protects PERS from the financial risks. Codifies a portion of the Treasurer’s “Pathway To Net Zero” Gives Treasury time to get into compliance with Oregon Investment Council policies. Requires Treasury to report on its actions towards a just climate transition
