Our parents knew where we were & the eyes of the neighborhood were on us. Outside all day except to eat. Between 5-6:30, it was like a ghost town because folks were having dinner, then we went back outside. Every kid knew to be home before the streetlights came on!

I understand this because I have always disliked malls. Most people treat me like I'm defective when I refuse their day long shopping excursions. In my area, there are obscenely huge ones that are always packed. I just can't.

Tortuous, unforgiveable treatment of children is an ongoing issue in the US from Indigenous kids taken from parents, forced into "schools" & horribly abused to enslaved Black children subjected to rape & beatings to scores of children forced by policy to live in poverty- a legacy of horrific trauma.
