For a heartbeat, it felt like the ground had shifted-like he might actually let himself fall. He could feel Jayce's breath on his cheek, close enough that a single step would bridge the gap between them. Viktor leaned forward, eyes closing, as if to close that last inch, to let himself believe that maybe, just maybe, this was safe.
