Ah yes, the Thiel funded defense contractor is buddying up with the Thiel funded domestic and international surveillance tech company to fund fission nuclear reactors which in turn produce fissile material… what could go wrong?

I don’t think he’s incompetent, but I do think he used electoral insulation to put a squad of senators in the line of fire when they’re nowhere near their reelection cycles.
That belies a lack of trust and dialogue with the electorate on what the priority and strategy actually is.

Personally, I'd love to see a strong regulatory requirement that all data centers being built use 100% renewable energy + nuclear. That would help us pace growth with sustainability.

Just to be clear on scale though, global energy generation was 30,857 TWh in 2024, up 4% from 2023.
Renewable generation was about 858 TWh.
Data centers as a whole, account for about 1.5% of all consumption. That means AI accounts for 0.2% of global energy consumption.

You might like this report from the IEA better iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/601ea...
It mentions data centers used about 415 TWh in 2024 and estimates AI accounted for about 15% of that. So maybe your 30GW number is a little shy of the real deal. 62.25TWh over a year is pretty big.

Right now the hurdle is pretty high, but if you want to dig in, clan.lol, webtorrent.io (github.com/webtorrent/w... since the site is having trouble atm), ipfs.tech, I2P, & atproto.com are all worth looking into
I'm hoping to simplify a lot of these into a few handy containers to get people started

All good! It just means that it takes more than one group to take the system down.
Right now, the majority of us would have a very bad day if Bluesky suddenly evaporated. Most of the Internet is like that. Folks are running their own version of the server software Bluesky uses to help change that.

This should help keep focus on the arenas where an electorate would have the most leverage.
