#SystemDSaturday? Sure, why not.

Installing Pop!_OS 24.04 with Cosmic on my main laptop (ThinkPad L14 1st Gen w/ Ryzen 7). 😅

I had a 1 TB Orico NVMe 4.0 drive purchased before the memory crisis. Moved my Solidigm drive over to a ThinkPad L490 so I can still access stuff.

Oh, install is done. 🎉

Slightly disappointed to find a nearly identical controller already exists with visible motors and no heart rate monitor. There are also these Lenovo branded variants without visible motors.

Bizarre new wireless controller! Has a curved screen, a heart rate monitor, adjustable height hall effect sticks, hall effect triggers, a transparent faceplate so you can watch the rumble motors spin... 🤔 That last point is IMO pretty cool.

Ludum Dare's data is on Akamai/Linode, but some of my things are on CloudFlare.

Welp, I've been "chosen" by CloudFlare Accounting for a "Account Review"—something I don't have time for as I continue struggling to find work 😢—so my sincerest apologies for any personal and #LDJam service outages. 😖

M5Stack—a Chinese maker of Single Board Computers and IOT modules—unironically sells a product called the AI Pyramid. 🤣

Okay cool, all is well. It turns out I incorrectly expected that because there was an `IDXGIFactory4` type there would be a matching function. But no, CreateDXGIFactory2 is simply CreateDXGIFactory with a slightly different argument list (akin to `ex` versions in other windows APIs)

Mystery solved.
February 5, 2026 at 8:19 AM
Nope, I'm wrong. Wine version of the DLL has the same symbols (plus a few others), and Proton DKVK is otherwise the same as the one above. I guess then `CreateDXGIFactory4` must be using `CreateDXGIFactory2` behind the scenes. 🤔

Anyway, Proton is still building, but I have somewhere else to look.
February 5, 2026 at 8:03 AM
Anyway, I want to inspect the Proton version of the DXGI.dll, as I would expect it contains a `CreateDXGIFactory4` symbol (DXGI 1.4) to support Direct3D 12. My hunch is that Proton either uses the DXGI from Wine, or there's a compile flag for DXVK that enables the newer factory calls. TBD!

Possibly ya, assuming they look something like this, then congrats you're getting spammed by Zendesk. 😋
February 5, 2026 at 12:23 AM
lol, yeah I'm getting emails addressed to Diddy. 🤦

Warming? Yes please!

Me a garage-less pleb, I've been parked at EV chargers for 2-3 hours each day to make sure I had enough charge to get back to the EV charger the next day. 😭

(It's been -16 during the day for way too many days in a row)

My wife wanted bread last night, which I forgot to buy (🤦), so I baked-up these today. #cooking #baking

I get these tackle boxes from the dollar store. I have maybe 20 of them. Fits most things, though some modules don't fit flat (seen below).

When I'm pretending I'm organized, I make labels with my label maker, but most of my boxes are unlabeled.

This "GREAT VALUE" Giant Tiger brand frozen lasagna might be the worst thing I've eaten in years. Any tomato and cheese you see is only what I poured on top, to soften the dry noodles. 🤢

*NOT* worth the C$5, nor the hour cook time. A C$2 bag of noodles and some salt would have made a better meal. 👎

My AliExpress is confused. I keep seeing incorrect labels like this, making me think I can get *300* guitar pedal patch cables for C$6, or *100* piezoelectric films for capturing acoustic guitar strings for C$4. 🥲

Clicking the items fixes the text. 😅

Like you can get these variety packs of Transistors, but it's not enough to just drop in any one into the circuit. The circuit was designed with certain behaviors in mind, and unlike with resistors/capacitors/inductors, the codes on transistors are somewhat arbitrary (product codes, not ratings). 🤷

Recent rabbit hole: Contact Microphones.

You can buy a cheap premade one for a few dollars, or make one using a piezoelectric disc transducer (or film), a wire, and a connector.

The quality of such a mic will be "fine", but without a preamp, the frequency response will be lacking in low tones.

lol, Duck Duck Go's AI survey is a bit one sided. 🤣

The cost of replacement parts is, IMO, pretty impressive. I got crazy good deal for the Tuners and Pickup. Ignoring tools and extras (i.e. a strap, pack of strings, more pots in case I want more knobs), the guitar upgrade parts came out to a very reasonable ~$29 (or $39 Canadian dollars). 😯
January 16, 2026 at 11:55 AM
The pickup I'll be replacing with a single height rail humbucker; The volume pot with a push-push switch-pot; To that it'll be adding a high-frequency bypass mod, and a new knob.

The wiring in this article shows a "better" humbucker->single wiring method.
