Going from TLT to Ellery Queen is honestly a delightful experience. All the language that TLT used poorly is now out in abundance and doing marvelously, and this is a pulp novel!

Also, I think these books aren't speaking to me because "Time To Orbit: Unknown" already did the traumatized queer folks in space, but better. If this was my first foray into "insane politics dying space empire forced into the worst possible situation body horror" then maybe it would hit harder.

I think The Locked Tomb is probably more fun when you don't see all the plot twists coming. Unfortunately, I find it very easy to piece together, and so big scenes that apparently really hit other people hard are just another scene. I had the major twists of HtN in my head by the end of part one.

Cis people: Repost, boost, and, importantly, buy. Part of boycotting an evil corporation is supporting the alternatives.
