Disgruntled EU dad
@disgruntledeudad.bsky.social
Just your typical EU dad living in the UK, cycling, stealing jobs. The Daily Mail loves me.
I barely scratched the surface it seems 🫣

That, I did not know. Good job Scottish ministers.

Maybury could have changed the area for the best - reinvigorate it with new life, shops, a transport infrastructure fit for climate and health targets. Instead, it’s just more of the same. Streets filled with cars, urbanism without vision, architecture without beauty. It’s a sad state of affairs.

I saw the Flying Scotsman by the way. It was underwhelming. I am joking, it was great ! 🚂

And the development of the paper factory looks like it’s going in the same direction. The plan was to have a high street in Turnhouse, instead they will build prison blocks. No life. More cars. Well done, really @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social. The kids at the school would have done a better job.

Why would they want to leave this magnificent estate I ask you? Because there is nothing in this new estate. No shops, no cafe, pub, restaurants. It’s dead. ☠️. Someone told me developers’ initial plans had some commercial areas in it, but in the end they just built houses. Nothing we can do 😔

So, the people who live in new Maybury or whatever it is called, I don’t know. Can’t take the bus, can’t really cycle speedily (pavement) and safely (nutters on road and lorries), and are mostly stuck in their cars when they want to move.

A development thought by people who have little care for their fellow humans. I imagine none of the masters behind this debacle live in the area. Where is this going, really ?
January 21, 2026 at 5:47 PM
I don’t know… think proper cycle lanes, public transport service first ? @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social, this one is for you. Although I imagine you’ll say it predates you and there is not much you can do. How in this day and age doesn’t a new development doesn’t think about public transport FIRST!

Meanwhile, divisions in the community are growing on discussions of a bus gate in the area. I imagine so a bus doesn’t get caught in the peak hour traffic. I don’t care I cycle and so should most people who can. But someone could have worked a little harder to avoid these issues in the first place?

So in the morning the kids walking to school breath in the fumes - very bad for their health but the council isn’t bothered. And in the afternoon, kids face speeding vehicles and motorists running red lights. The council says it is a police matter and doesn’t see how bad planning is the cause ?
January 21, 2026 at 5:47 PM
Because the NEW school is built on the road serving the airport freight. Not making this up. Urbanists in Edinburgh thought this was the best idea because little kids and massive Lorries, no biggie. They could have thought it through. But no 🥹.
January 21, 2026 at 5:47 PM
Outside peak hours when motorists wait forever stuck in traffic, cars and LORRIES, are driving way beyond the 20mph limit zooming past walking school children in the afternoon.
January 21, 2026 at 5:47 PM
The council allowed developers to build (and still are building) a huge estate and haven’t thought of the traffic issues it would pose instantly.
The estate has no real bus service, no real cycling lanes (shared with pedestrians).

The development is a sh*t show on so many levels, and it’s starting to take a toll on the new community. The @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social seems to ignore all the complaints, from new and older residents in the area, including on road safety.
