I write social issues and SFF novels and love talking with other writers. I have two daughters whom I adore, two dogs whom I usually like, and a nerd-cool husband. I'm a playwright and former newspaper reporter who published a book on computer folklore
That you remember her fifteen years later and still grieve for her shows how deep your friendship was. In itself, that was a gift for both of you. I'm sorry that that gift also includes such pain. Sometimes that's the cost of love.

I don't care if a celebrity uses weight loss drugs. It doesn't matter.

Why do you blame the patriarchy? Can't she make her own decisions?

I do that, too, being a compulsively joking Libra who's discovered that humor easily backfires in email/texts so I must be formal. It can be a struggle, because I instinctively want to warmly engage, but I have to be cautious, especially in book queries. Must avoid accidentally creating land mines.

Reddit's the best. Discovered it 2 years ago after watching a highly-praised/promoted but terrible detective series and wondering if it was just me. Its critiques were insightful and spot on. It was like being back in high school and meeting a really cute, smart, respectful boy. Ah, I'm in love.

This has really made my afternoon.

Well, paranoid, maybe, not necessarily problematic. I have heard that some agents are using AI to evaluate manuscripts, which has me nervous if that's true.

As someone who doesn't write romance, I've always wondered; What is the difference between a trope and a cliche? The tropes are why I don't read romances, because they're so predictable.
BTW, AI just predicted that I was going to type, "predictable," which I find predictably unnerving.

During Covid I started purging stuff I didn't really use or want, and it was liberating. I donate what I can to thrift stores, give to recycling, toss the rest. It's overwhelmingly positive; my place is cleaner, simpler, calmer. Don't keep what you don't need/want, or it owns you, not you it.

You're assuming he could learn.

Why do they think that anyone would be interested in that? "Hey, I made a video of a mentally ill woman talking to herself while she walks through traffic, it's hilarious, want to see it?" No thank you.

Yes, but I expect them to support me in my old age.

Rubio, like all the others, has no gag reflex. They are pretend politicians in shiny dioramas who will swallow anything because they are empty inside.

Thank you for this! My question is, if an agent doesn't respond to my query (even if they use QM) does that mean they've rejected my query or that it fell through the cracks and I should require them after a year or so?

Didn't trump call himself "smart" for paying $0 in taxes? So let's do the smart thing, and render unto trump the things the are trumps; that is, a big fat zero!

I think you're being too logical here. Racism is not based on rationality. Maybe the Proud Boys don't really see color after all, they just see how much of an asshole he is. And they like it. Bro!

My take on it is that he's scared of getting shot. Bullies are often cowards inside.

It's repulsive, but Person of the Year doesn't mean *good* person of the year, but an individual's a major impact on national or world politics/culture. There were probably a lot of Times staffers mentally vomiting at making this choice, but it recognizes historical importance, not personal quality.

The article's an opinion piece lacking evidence or info from those who actually work in reproductive tech. I endured IVF 3 times to have kids. It is hell. We weren't well off and insurance didn't cover it. Narcissistic Silicon V couples are the problem, not IVF technology. "Designer baby" is a joke.
