I wanted to share some words from a friend of mine that I would ask any of my parent friends to spread around. We need to be able to protect our kids. All of our kids. "Friends, the transgender kids in your community (and their families!) really need you right now. The latest Executive Order (included below) bans any type of gender affirming care for anyone under the age of *19* — and it is ugly in so many ways. In light of this and other transgender-related Executive Orders, some local hospitals and medical offices have started asking families to confirm their child’s sex at birth regardless of the appointment type or medical specialty. This update to the child’s biographical data is *not* mandatory, but it ultimately will result in the denial of certain treatments for transgender kids (such as delaying the onset of puberty) that are permitted for cisgender kids. It would be very helpful if families across the board would decline to answer that question so that transgender kids would not be so readily identified in these medical data sets.
