Realised I hadn't yet posted a picture of my first(!) tattoo. Mae at www.snakeandcranetattoo.com was an absolute joy to work with and the detail is incredible.

In case you're wondering, it's based on an image from Le Morte d'Arthur by Aubrey Beardsley, because I am nothing if not pretentious.

The scene in Let The Right One In when a character who's becoming a vampire is attacked by a crazy cat guy's crazy cats.
A woman on a date was clearly very upset by it and rushed out in tears. Her date slowly, reluctantly trudged after her, mournfully looking up at the screen as he left.
Two unfortunately unconvincing CGI cats cling to a cowboy-booted woman's legs, clearly intent on biting her. The image comes from the Swedish film Let The Right One In, which is otherwise excellent.

Go visit the small (but perfectly formed) Fragment Found exhibition at Make it Glasgow if you can. It's great.

Eartha Kitt drinks from a bottle of honey whilst wearing an embroidered cocktail dress. Eartha, despite being born on a plantation, was a hugely talented singer and actress with a career of over 60 years. She appeared in Orson Wells' plays; taught her friend James dean ballet; was nominated for Grammy and Tony awards and won daytime Emmy awards. She was an activist for LGBT+ rights and famously criticised the Vietnam war whilst at the White House. The CIA branded Eartha ‘a sadistic nymphomaniac’.

I too can use an ethically dubious meme generator by entering a pithy phrase over a retro logo. in this case, the font matches that of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series logo but reads "Frazer Brown Has Gone Bananas" mainly because, well, he has.

No idea if they've been used in anything, but the Setas de Sevilla are incredible things too.
The Setas de Sevilla - a massive wooden sculpture in Seville, Spain designed to resemble mushrooms. They have a lattice-like shape and a warm colour from the material used. They stand on a pedestrian square in warm sunshine.

Congratulations to @kariebookish.bsky.social and Hector, Tom and Nicky for an amazing run on University Challenge. It's been one part exhilarating and one part terrifying watching the whole OU team.

Going, Going, gone. Three of the local tower blocks were demolished today. Lack of a klaxon (I blame youthful exposure to Fred Dibnah) meant I almost missed the big moment.

People are watching from the bottom of the composition. Of the four, only the garlanded block stays intact. The first of the remainder has vanished behind the buildings; the second is mostly rubble in a dark grey cotton-wool cloud and the third is fracturing and spurting jets of dirt from its levels. little sign remains of the destroyed blocks. The final block's destruction continues with it's levels beginning to bucle and lean to the left as chunks break away to join the cloud of debris. A plume of ash and concrete and dust is all that remains, with the earlier destruction fading to white misty wraiths.

I think this is c.1983 Dave
a boy of 8 or so stands looking at the camera dressed as a skeleton. He's wearing a combination of black leotard and tights with bones stitched on (individually, by my mum). His face has a rudimentary skull painted on it, but his mop of straw coloured hair is obvious. It appears to be a sunny day. He's standing in front of a fenced-off grassy area. Just visible in the background behind some trees is a large marquee. Completely unrelated to anything else, this photo encouraged Scout Niblett to join my network on Friendster which, if anything, makes me sound even older.

Got my copy of The Wicked and Divine: The Covers Version and it is so very, very pretty.

The adaptations of classic films are always their own special brand of weird - the Flash Gordon one is great, with film stills and all - but it delves a little too deeply into both Dale's swinger past and Aura's BDSM relationship with her dad.

Following this month's discourse, I've just finished reading The Castle of Dark; am currently reading Companions on the Road and will be moving onto The Forests of the Night next, because Tanith Lee is great.
