We mourn deeply the loss of Alice Wong, writer, activist, and founder of the Disability Visibility Project. She uplifted Disabled stories, championed inclusive disaster work, and fought for our survival and joy.

Her impact will continue to shape our community for years to come.

Too many disabled students are left behind when disasters strike. This #NationalPreparednessMonth, we’re sharing real stories, like the student told to “stay put” during a fire drill to spotlight the gap and help campuses build emergency management plans that include everyone.

Disability Justice reshapes preparedness, centering disabled leadership of those of us most impacted. #NationalPreparednessMonth

“Section 503 Rollbacks – Why It Matters.” “The Department of Labor has proposed changes that would gut key parts of Section 503 regulations, removing the 7% workforce goal and voluntary self-identification process that hold federal contractors accountable for hiring disabled workers.” “The Partnership submitted official comments opposing these rollbacks because: • Disabled people are 2–4 times more likely to die in disasters, largely due to poverty. • 24% of disabled people live in poverty, driven by barriers to work. • Section 503 protections help open doors to employment and stability, which directly impact disaster survival.” “Rolling back these rules means fewer jobs, deeper poverty, and higher disaster risks for disabled communities.
