Yeah, it draws the cold artic air from the area as the ice struggles to accumulate anything, unlike decades ago. So the dramatic melting is what's fueling a last hoorah, IMHO

They had enough sense to go north. It's more of a, "you had to be there" moment for them in this section of turtle island. I believe it was almost 900 AD by the time they began to settle in Iceland.

The difference is Extent vs Volume.
The problem with using the extent is that the thinner the ice, the less albedo effect it has. It could appear large and be ready to vanish eventually.
With this data alone, I'm confident we'll see a Blue Arctic.
