New from Disability Victory: Findings from the 2025 Disabled Progressive Priorities Survey www.disabilityvictory.org/news/2025-survey Key Findings: In 2025, disabled leaders have mixed feelings about getting involved in electoral politics Of those who are open to the idea of electoral politics, the majority are interested in working on campaigns in 2025. Of those interested in running for office, they are most interested in running for local or state office. Disabled progressives who want to mobilize through electoral politics have questions about accessing accommodations on the campaign trail, and they’re concerned about ableism. Key findings: While electoral politics may not be the highest priority in 2025, disabled progressives are ready to mobilize through other forms of leadership, such as: Policy and issue-based advocacy Activism and direct action Digital organizing Mutual aid organizing Disabled progressives know that every policy issue is a disability issue. Respondents’ priorities for 2025 are: Affordable and accessible housing Disability rights law Health care access Social Security and Medicaid Reproductive justice

Trinity College Dublin: Irish study identifies financial and canvassing barriers for disabled political candidates. Posted on 25 February 2025. The first Irish study of disabled political candidates has identified financial costs and difficulty canvassing as among the many systemic barriers facing disabled candidates who wish to participate in political life in Ireland Other systemic barriers identified by the research include inaccessibility of the built environment, information and communication, negative attitudes, fear of violence, insufficient financial resources, and lack of support. Key findings on the next slide. Key findings: Systemic barriers were identified including barriers related to inaccessibility of the built environment, information and communication, negative attitudes, fear of violence, insufficient financial resources, and lack of support. Canvassing was named as a major issue for many, including the ability to get to people’s front doors. Safety whilst out canvassing was also a concern. Being disabled results in additional costs when canvassing. Access and funding were key and those interviewed believed it should be made available to all disabled candidates. The catalyst for entering politics was not always related to disability or other intersecting identities, however, participants expressed a responsibility to represent others who shared their identities but were not as privileged. Disclosure of a disability is a key consideration for disabled people, particularly those with invisible disability, when standing for election. Representation or the lack of representation of particular communities in politics was of concern to those interviewed.

Today, President Trump claimed that DEI hiring initiatives and FAA workers with disabilities were to blame for yesterday's deadly plane crash at DCA.

Today, President Trump claimed that DEI hiring initiatives and FAA workers with disabilities were to blame for yesterday's deadly plane crash at DCA. We condemn these racist and ableist opinions that were made to advance his political agenda. The cause of the plane crash is unknown, and there is no evidence that DEI or disabled employees are responsible. We need leadership that is committed to supporting grieving families and a thorough investigative process, not statements made to promote a bigoted agenda and scapegoat marginalized people. Our thoughts are with the families and communities impacted by this terrible tragedy.

RFK Jr is a danger to health care for Americans with disabilities. His anti-vaccine and anti-science rhetoric, combined with his lies that Americans don't like the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, put our lives at risk.

The Senate must reject his nomination.
