I would always vote for the party with the good intentions. I don't care if I get a tax break as a consequence of a politician enriching himself and his cronies. I would rather have someone in power who tries to help the less fortunate, even if their end results turn out to be less than perfect.

3. The Harvard Implicit Association Test is an interesting tool to check for biases: implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/tak...

My favourite way of finding out about our biases is simply finishing sentences:

"I'm not a racist, but..:"
"Muslims are..."
"There should be more women in power, but..."

2. When we are in a state with fewer inhibitions (medication, booze, strong emotions), those biases come out sometimes and we are shocked afterwards about what came out. When we protest "That wasn't me! I would never say something like that!", this is partially correct.

Also, it went through the courts. It wasn't some Government interference, so really no reason to contact/blame the Federal Minister of Health, whose name is Warken, not Workin, btw.

4. As much as I want to shout at MAGAs that they have caused so much harm, we probably will have to change our approach. "Bad things happened. This is what we can do to fix them. And this is how you can contribute and regain control over your life again." But no "I told you so!"

3. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to get off our high horse and let go of our moral superiority. If not, then the backfire effect (when you point out people's faulty beliefs/thoughts/decisions, etc., they actually reject the evidence and strengthen their own viewpoint) gets triggered.

2. Things like being listened to without contempt, having some control over their immediate lives, and seeing tangible improvements they can attribute to their own actions.

On a personal level, that means asking questions rather than correcting and acknowledging fears before disputing them.

1. Well, when people feel a lack of control, confidence isn’t restored by facts or calm reassurances, as those can actually feel dismissive of their fear. Confidence tends to grow from experiences that increase agency, dignity, and belonging.
