We just don’t learn about them unless we specifically study their histories, b/c most didnt lead to an obviously digestible wholesale change in the long term order (although many *did* have simplex lasting effects) that pop history narratives are limited to.

Agreed w/some of this, but I’d emphatically push back about past eras being more stable & that folks rarely rose up. Uprisings happened all the time, sometimes resulting in massive years long wars, horrible loss of life, generations long upheaval, etc. Far beyond anything likely to happen now.

They’re generalizations, but in my experience (born ‘77) that other guy’s statement is closer to the truth than yours.

I’ve described it as Star Wars for people who don’t like Star Wars.
With a few minor script changes each ep, it could have been a totally original sf series (resulting in a much smaller audience obviously).

I think a lot of it is just people trying to process what their Tgiving priorities are. I’m a decent lifelong cook, hosted many of these, but even when the food is pretty good it just wipes me tf out! I’m like, is this “fun”, really? Finally decided to just do a normal fucking meal this year.

Watching this thread b/c yeah, scanner. Unfortunately about 1-2x/week I need to print something with color, which really jacks things up $$$ wise.

It’s a great case study of how we can have mountains of conclusive info on the subject freely available (infant mortality rates in pre-industrial settings), yet people get sucked into some obscure weirdos that fulfill an emotional need & base major life decisions around it.

Good lord. I’ve always 100% supported Zohran, just think this was a naive move and red flag. The groupthink here has gotten really bad.

I’m a social worker for homeless & immigrant families, seeing the damage being inflicted firsthand every day. Unprecedented. You don’t celebrate even your shiny new cool guy yucking it up with the evil asshole doing this.

The problem is, they’d be *rightfully* excoriated! It’s a shitty naive move in the larger picture, I’m just sort of stunned everyone here is celebrating Zohran for it.
