Here’s a male visiting our bird bath a couple years ago. They like to nest in tall palm tree fronds around here, even though those trees are not native to this area.

Yep, they're nothing to mess with. These resemble some edibles, which leads to illnesses & deaths every year. Sad stuff. I've never taken any chances with my wild mushrooms. Only ones I ever forage are unmistakable. Hands-on education with professionals is key.💚

Here are a couple of my best examples of S. hirsutum in our area. The first is a macro (with underside showing at top), and I just got that 2nd shot last week. I'd turned over that middle mushroom in the 2nd shot to show its topside, but the rest are undersides. Lovely fungus I think. :)

Here's a Washington state S. hirsutum that has been verified by a mycologist on iNat. That's one we have here, and it's also hairy.

S. ostrea "... is native to the island of Java, Indonesia and has been misapplied to the North American Stereum species...", but I'm not sure which Stereum species are up your way. :)
