It’s a quiet afternoon at the office so I made a quick trip to some Broadway favourites for a snack. Welsh cheddar from Bulk Cheese Warehouse and a panino from Christie’s Il Secondo. Saskatoon folks will understand my delight!

The pastry project for February will be tarts. I’ve started off with a potato, onion, bacon, and cheese tart in an improvised cheese pastry.

Resolution update: instead of limiting myself to one pastry per month, I’m thinking of one category per month. So January is doughnut month. So far I’ve made sufganiyot, apple fritters, and cake doughnuts

Bread #57 is Dutch Christmas Bread or Kerstbrood. It’s a really high hydration dough that’s more like a batter, and it contains dried fruit and nuts (in this case raisins, dried cranberries, and pumpkin seeds). It makes wonderful toast. Just one more new bread to go for the year!
