What's true is that *the actual war* is being fought between two competing right-wing nationalisms, without a strong "left" voice on either side. But that's often how it goes with wars.

Exactly, this is also why recognizing the State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel is a clear statements against Hamas. Hamas does not want a peaceful two-states future and undermines any steps towards it. Recognizing two states is a key step against all extremists.
