Perhaps a tile-based puzzle game, either action puzzle in the vein of Puyo Puyo OR tile-based movement like in Deadly Rooms of Death? I could also see it as a first person dungeon crawler a la SMT.

Anyone else remember this?
Chretien the otter and Guillaume the beaver, both "musketeers" of a sort. With their dubious skills, they protect the tiny coastal town of Siréne from seemingly insurmountable threats!
Admittedly, they may need some guidance... from YOU, the player!
