Sharing my first & favorite villanelle, from Adaine’s perspective of that full-circle moment (FHJY: “The Name” & FH: “The Beginning Begins,” ft. @vornietom.bsky.social)

This repetitive form best expresses these divinatory magics, underscoring the small-then-seismic changes to this Oracle's future.

“No bloody crying in the sky, alright?”—even after reading this poem, we must keep a stiff upper lip in honor of Van Chapman, the loud and cloudward bosun of sky and sea alike. Plus, a bonus Bert poem!

The poem reads: Van Chapman A Chapman descended from those who descended into brackish depths, dimmed where lights they lit ended; ’til there among monuments, beacons defended, Van faces and graces the god who forfended the fates of the Chapmans and scourges of Zern, whose name she’d long known—though she had first to learn. Tazgw’agwa’s lost name resounds down Chapman’s line, reflected in rescues ere times end in brine. A curse handed down ’til it ends at Van’s gauntlet, the sea takes them young—still they sail forth undaunted. Van takes to the winds, lets no crew come to harm; she’ll lead on sky legs but repress her sea arm. This thalassic lass, sick of spurning the waves, done gauging the danger, bids west winds be brave. With inky obtenebrant tentacles free, Van Chapman reclaims both her kin and their sea. A Chapman all told, her whole life is seagirt apart from her heart which lands squarely on Bert. This side of the moon, she’ll sail by obscure stars to fathoms unfathomed, to farthest Shahar, for myths become maps when paths charted are chosen by Vanellope Chapman, the Zephyr’s sure bosun. I too was whisked into the air when my heart soared new heights. Our courtship bloomed like onions, though mine always make Van cry. My love’s first love is to the sea, her second to the sky— But I’m her guy; she asks if I could understand. “I do.” Since Van’s my something borrowed, we both sail into the blue.

In her goggles and shawl, her crochet overalls, you know this is Beedo Meemaw. A mien so hospitable, downright despicable, she’s who she threatens to be—though she waves a big knife, she will light up your life to the sounds of the siren, beedo! She greets you arms wide with a hearty “Bello!” You love to see Beedo Meemaw. You get a care package, the gift tag is yellow: “Cookies para tu from Meemaw.” She’ll exclaim, “why, you grew!” and “I must abet Gru!” A gran for your villainy needs—oh she’s accident-prone, but her hugs smell like home ’til it goes up in fire, beedo! In the winter, she flies south to Copacabana, checks in under “Beedo Meemaw.” At her ripe old age, she’s our favorite ba-nana— steal the moon and our hearts, Beedo Meemaw.

On a golden background of ornate plate armor, and punctuated with a flourish at the bottom, a poem reads: "A knight—the last of dominoes come toppling through time— delivers, as his sacred charge, a shining scroll sublime. He dare not peek at secret words, made holy with their age, a duty that had borne him on since he was just a page. So with "Fig Faeth" on his lips, his purpose finds its end; her fated hand closed on the scroll—a text, from her girlfriend. Sweet nothings, yes, but through the epochs they say all, a simple "hey," enough to stand the squalls of time in scrawl. For Fig and Ayda, paramours, long-timeline is frustrating, but trysts in trilobites are theirs; through carbon they keep dating. In ardor, they will build each other orders just to say, hello my love, I miss you, my dad's weird, but how's your day?"

The case is now open; soon everyone’s duping with this shameless alias perfect for snooping. No matter the stakes, you know you wanna say this catch-all uncatchable clear sobriquet. F as in Fakename, but also in flight—— the second she’s named, she careens outta sight."

Buddy Bear sonnet! Our favorite cat tree lives eternally in the Arcadia he helped resurrect, so we’ve immortalized Buddy Bear here in rhyme too. Written for Jujubee and inspired by the finale of Dungeons and Drag Queens Season 1 (in honor of the new S2 finale) #dimension20 #dungeonsanddragqueens

The text reads: The burden of Thanara’s barren lands must not be borne by one dread queen alone— so Twyla plants a seed with hopeful hands in hedge-grown happy haunches on death’s throne. To softest rumbles, deadlands sigh and split as freshly open earth begins to purr; soon fairy spirits flit to live alit in golden sunlight, warm in jasmine fur. The Allblossom’s dear gift will keep on giving, a budding boon in druidcraft and care— eternal roots, the life that stems from living now blooms in the embrace of Buddy Bear. The pulse of Twyla’s heart—a chuisle mo chroí— is fierce enough to let the fae live free.

A recent villanelle for #MisfitsandMagic, reflecting on K (@erikaishii.bsky.social) as lines repeat and their magic amplifies. What a magnificent season—made magical by moments like this.

With too much oomph, the Heart of Weugan bled, the passion of K's causes amplified to breach the firewalls within their head. K dwells on good intentions that misled: the bits, the fictions... rosy glasses lied. Snap! K's magic roils, coils red. Compacted magics gleam with what's unsaid— the tropes, the truths, the clumsy ways K tried to breach the firewalls within their head. But K can hack it. Fervors, servers spread a magic that would spin us world and wide— their network routes, through magics coiled red. The risk that Itsy Bitsy be misread K shoulders on their crimson-coded side. They breached the firewalls within their head to build and serve a magic coiled red."
