Romanticism is basically the first literary influencer culture. Everyone wanted to look as tragic and misunderstood as Byron.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

In autumn, we don’t just eat, we feast on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Chapter 5 open, fork poised over literary delight, puzzle and sculpture to taste the story with our eyes… Savouring every detail of this classic this season.

I love my copies of The Last Man, Frankenstein, and Lodore, but it’s maddening that Mary Shelley’s other novels barely exist in print.

I have a few things to say about this...

This sounds like a wonderful space for anyone interested in Romanticism! I wish I could join too, but it is currently banned in my country. Still, highly recommend reaching out if you're able to! 🌿📚
We are still looking for new people to join the BARS Discord - a place to meet with other scholars of British Romanticism, discuss your research, vent about life, or just trade memes. We're also planning to have movie nights! Get in touch with me if you are interested in joining. @bars.bsky.social

Now that the seminar phase has ended, here’s a post looking back on a semester with the Romantics. These are some of the books I read, filled with powerful stories, emotional poems, and ideas that lingered long into the night. Research? If the poets start to feel like friends then it absolutely was.
