Stacking can affect the count too, or at least it used to.
The other thing I’ve done to diagnose it is to create a collection and manually drag everything in that has synced to it, then create a smart collection that shows everything _not_ in the manually created collection (it’s a bit of a PITA).

IIRC the bottom count doesn’t include videos, which is normally the source of the discrepancy.

Yep, that can be a pain but I’ve just tended to use albums to organise things instead.

Yep, that seems to be the case in my experience, I have had issues with really large files not being able to sync their edits back from Lightroom Classic to the cloud but they were old 200MB+ TIFFs so probably an edge case.

Yep, I do, but to make it work well you have to use Lightroom as your primary import location (on Mac or mobile) as Lightroom Classic will only upload lower-quality proxies to the cloud for editing and exporting on mobile (that might be fine for your use-case though).
