Dean is the well-loved town veterinarian, and he helps Cas auction off "A Date with a Babe" - snuggles with Sam's petting farm piglet, Babe - for charity. After the auction ends, he volunteers to help Cas with a few other things, too... 💚💙

What does an archaeo-nerd do on their day off? Head to Salisbury Museum for their Festival of Archaeology, of course!

I felt the same way after this photo, but then found out he'd filmed all night in Toronto and then took a 5am flight to get to SPNNJ. I don't think he got any sleep, so I forgave the grumpy face. And he smiled in the one the next day, after a full night's sleep.

Not as pretty as the Icelandic scenery, but here are a few random shots from my wander around Exeter today.
The sun is striking a clear protective door in front of the wooden Exeter Cathedral door. The outline of a shield with a sword and crossed keys (a seal for the church, I think?) is painted on the clear door, which casts a shadow on the wooden door making the image look burned onto the door. On an abandoned sign, a street poet has written "Cobbled streets & cobbled minds. Stop for a second...and breathe in time." A section of Exeter's Roman-era city wall stands in the middle of a highly developed shopping area. A sign on the wall identifies it (text of sign in next photo). A sign on the ruin of a wall reads: THE CITY WALL Built by the Romans about 200 AD, since repaired by others. Much of the City Wall still stands, some of it original Roman workmanship. 1977 Queen Elizabeth II - Silver Jubilee

More scenes - Solheimajokull glacier and Seljalandsfoss waterfall. I walked behind it, and I'm now a little wet and a lot cold, but it was worth it!

I love that! We have Orion and Cassiopeia (Cassie), named by my kiddos, who are siblings we got during the pandemic when we lost Meara. This was the two of them the other day, curled up with me before I left.

More Reykjavik...National Museum of Iceland displays, World of Words manuscript exhibit, and Hallgrimskirkja.
Grave goods, including a necklace of colorful beads, bone combs and tools, and rusty boat nails, from a boat burial found in Iceland. A very old manuscript from Iceland's history is carefully displayed under low light. Public sculpture installation showing the silhouetted forms of two hollowed-out people. Didn't get a lot of photos from the SHAs in New Orleans, but I did capture these charming little guys in an antique shop window. Hubby wouldn't let me bring them home, alas.

Both kids are home from their respective schools for Thanksgiving and wanted to watch Muppet Family Christmas over Thanksgiving leftovers. I have raised them well. ❤️

Some fabulous zooarch bits and pieces from today! First, a shark vertebrae with use-wear evidence that it was worn as a pendant and secondly a sperm whale tooth! Alas, both are unprovenienced...
A round black bone, about two fingers wide, with a hole punched through the concave center. A round flat bone, viewed from the side, with symmetrical holes on either side. It looks a bit like the round wooden part of a tinker toy! Top view of an irregular round bone with a hole through the center. The bone, a shark vertebrae, has concentric circles coming out from the center. A conical bone, a sperm whale tooth, is held in someone's hand. From top to bottom, it is longer than the hand holding it.

Sometimes the boxes and tins artifacts were stored in are as interesting as the artifacts themselves! This Band-Aid tin has a patent date of Dec 28, 1926!

At the bottom of the tin it is labeled "25 cents". Picture shows the interior of the open band-aid tin. On the inside of the lid are three-step instructions for cutting the band-aid to the correct size, pulling the "protective crinoline" from the adhesive, and applying to the wound.
