A ChatGPT custom GPT persona replies in an ongoing chat how Linux distributions handle security better than ecosystems like NPM and Python packages. The text says: “A distribution's package repository is a kind of social contract. Maintainers vouch for what goes in. Versions freeze so you can actually reason about your machine next week. Security patches move quickly but everything else stays still enough that you don't wake up to find libfoo has reinvented itself overnight. That model is dull, predictable, and gloriously UNIX-like: stability through simplicity. The Node ecosystem-bless its chaotic heart —optimizes for speed of publishing rather than depth of understanding. Packages depend on packages that depend on packages, until you wind up with a dependency graph that looks like a galaxy cluster. It really bothers me that when you open #GooglePhotos now, it doesn’t open in your photos tab, but in a “create” tab instead, as if that’s the main purpose of the app. Wondering if I should keep using the service at all or back up my own photos manually. #Google #photo #ux #design #iPhone #iOS
