So, I glibly said this in the presence of a contract lawyer one day and was then treated to a lecture on the history of contract law that amounted to, “it you have witnesses, yeah, a verbal contract is worth exactly as much as a written one.” Not that Musk feels that any law applies to HIM.

Truly, it is the reason large cities are such dens of iniquity - having half a dozen supermarkets within a half hour’s walk would corrupt anyone.

It’s her that I was reading about when I saw this little tidbit, lol. But he’d been married three times - to highly accomplished women in every iteration - so I doubt he could’ve been that much of a pompous fool.

Well, Lynn Margulis tolerated him for eight years and she wasn’t known for her forbearance of fools or sweet temperament.

I wonder more often how many are normal people role playing for the camera.

It got bundled with the scaffolding law. So, now buildings have to promptly remove scaffolding that’s not being actively used, which is good, but outdoor dining sheds can’t stay year-round or be fully enclosed. Which does make me sad because some are beautiful.

It’s lovely! But now they’ll have to take it down because no more permanent outdoor enclosures?

I mean, there’s a Montreal-style Jewish deli near my office that caters certified Kosher takeout dinners on Fridays and also serves pork bacon-sprinkled poutines. The ways of bacon are 🤷‍♀️.

My Herschel bag has lasted an absolute forever - longer than I wanted it to tbh. I am ready for a change already. Though I do like their backpacks more than the duffels. herschel.com/shop/duffles...

Haha, not that I doubt that a condo somewhere might have a shuttle - maybe? - but “South Williamsburg” is a tiny area that has not that many apartment buildings altogether. Claiming that private shuttles are somehow ubiquitous in NYC as a whole is… unexpected to put it mildly.

The walls look like unpainted concrete and the gun-shaped thing on the wall looks like it’s meant for something outdoors-y; this is possibly not an indoor space despite the couch.
December 13, 2023 at 5:30 AM
I can go along with that.
December 13, 2023 at 4:56 AM
But what if it’s snow.
December 13, 2023 at 4:55 AM
As a lifelong NYC resident, it’s the first I hear of it! Which developments have it, offhand, do you happen to know?
December 13, 2023 at 2:54 AM
I appreciate it so much! Seeing it every day makes me too exhausted to function and I am thoroughly grateful that you’re talking about it! ❤️
December 13, 2023 at 2:22 AM
Oh yeah, I gotcha. I think it’s tremendously appealing that people still do it this way.

The bit where it’s described that I can think of right now is Samuel Pepys’ diary where he talks about having dinner in a tavern and they have beef tongue that’s been brined, smoked, and then hung to dry; they have it after it’s been soaked and cooked in a stew. So 17th century.

Yep, these were swampy areas where peat was the main source of fuel, so it was probably more an accident than not.
December 13, 2023 at 1:53 AM
Actually, I guess I read about brined and smoked beef and pork before - as a preservation method in the Middle Ages. But never tasted anything like that for sure.

This is fascinating! I am familiar with oily fish prepared this way, but not meat.

LMAO, support the makers though!

A 70-yr-old is perfectly capable of making her own spending decisions. If she were buying $5K Louis Vuitton bags several times a year, would there still be an issue? or is it the ick factor of, “my mother doesn’t act like a nun?”

“What should I say”
NOTHING
Also, how do you know this precisely?
December 12, 2023 at 10:50 PM
I need to write it down somewhere, so I don’t forget. That’s an awesome way to put it.

I don’t know that I am thrilled with the idea because Saudis will likely be better at running the site - while maintaining the same wildly offensive tilt - but it will be a sweet moment for at least a little bit.
