On the west coast in the 60s and 70s Dad was a Teacher but had to work summers picking cherries to make ends meet. We pre-teens were sent to the fields by bus at 5 a.m. with the migrant workers to pick strawberries, beans, etc. - later nights the cannery. Best education ever. Earned our keep

Happy about this, but Stu Rasmussen was Mayor of Silverton, Oregon first as one gender and elected again after changing genders.
