Like you she is a completely amazing strong woman. She lost everything, her kids were taken from her. As adults they have their mom now, and she has been able to help them with their substance issues because she’s on that path. Just take care of yourself and other people can mind their business.

She ended up getting on medication and therapy. She’s now 77, she’ll be 78 this January. She doesn’t drink because she’s scared that if she did she couldn’t stop it. If she did drink she wouldn’t have gotten the help she needed. I have another really good friend who’s got in 10 years sober

I’m lucky because I didn’t know how depressed my mom has been through her whole life. We come from alcoholics. My dad passed when I was as 16 after being seriously ill for 10 years. She took care of both of us. After he died her plan was to stick with me until 18 then check out

I really hope that when you feel better that you can reach out to her and tell her she can can go pee up a rope for all you care. This time of year is hard for so many reasons, add the daily grind of being sober while everything on tv or online is about excess. Forced cheerfulness.

Congratulations 🎉, thank you for being brave enough to share your journey. You have given yourself the best gift anyone can receive. A second chance, more time with your family and students. Better quality of time with them. Time with yourself. From your posts you’re a cool lady.

I really hope that you’re able to store your posts. Someday you might get the urge to write a memoir. Even if it’s just for you & your family. I still remember reading you possibly first posting. I think I wrote that this was a gift to your daughter. It’s also a wonderful gift you gave to yourself
