The first P. Everett novel I read was American Desert, and I want everyone to read this truly bonkers and wonderful novel that opens with a decapitated man sitting up at his own funeral. And then mayhem!

David Gergen was right up there with Julia Childs for me as a Cambridge famous person I saw with odd frequency when I lived there in the 1990s. I have always admired him.
